Gulf Wreck Diving with ScubaTech Adventures

There's something magical about exploring shipwrecks in the Gulf of Mexico that keeps divers coming back for more. With ScubaTech and Captain Mike at the helm, you'll discover why local wreck diving has become the top-rated underwater adventure in our area. Our custom 31-foot Rampage takes small groups of passionate divers to some of the Gulf's most spectacular wreck sites, where decades of marine growth have transformed sunken vessels into bustling artificial reefs teeming with life.

Beneath the Surface

Every dive starts with a detailed briefing from our experienced divemasters who know these wrecks like the back of their hand. You'll typically hit two different wreck sites during your day out, giving you a chance to explore varied underwater landscapes and encounter different species at each location. The Gulf's warm waters make for comfortable diving year-round, though visibility can vary from good to outstanding depending on conditions. Our divemasters like Ashley and Will have been guiding these waters for years, and they'll point out the hidden gems you might miss on your own - from massive grouper hanging in the shadows to colorful marine life that's made these wrecks home. Between dives, we provide snacks and drinks while you surface interval and share stories about what you just saw below.

Dive Brief & Gear Info

We run a fully licensed and insured operation with all necessary safety equipment on board. Our custom Rampage is built for Gulf diving conditions and can handle the run out to the deeper wreck sites where the really impressive structures lie. Most of our wreck dives range from 60 to 100 feet, perfect for advanced open water divers and above. The wrecks themselves offer multiple entry points and swim-throughs, though we always brief you on the safest routes based on current conditions. Our divemasters carry cutting tools and emergency gear, and they're trained to handle any situation that might come up. We typically plan bottom times around 25-30 minutes per dive, giving you plenty of time to explore while staying within safe decompression limits. The boat's got a comfortable setup for gearing up and a good platform for easy entries and exits.

What Divers Are Saying

"I had the absolute pleasure of diving with Ashley Vick from Scubatech in Destin, Florida, and I can confidently say she is an outstanding master diver and leader. We did two dives to two incredible shipwrecks in the Gulf of Mexico, and Ashley's expertise, calm presence, and enthusiasm made the experience unforgettable." - Varsha

"We dove with Scubatech over the weekend and had a blast. The crew was amazing and super friendly. Snack provided between dives. I highly recommend diving with them!" - Dale

"I'm an experienced diver, but this was my first local dive. I felt welcome and valued from the first moment. The boat and dive crew were great, and the dive sites were interesting. Divemaster Will pointed out critters of interest, and we were fortunate to have good visibility." - Mark

Marine Life You'll See

Black Grouper are the real stars of these Gulf wrecks, and encountering one is always a highlight of any dive. These impressive fish can grow massive - we're talking 50 pounds or more for the big boys that call these wrecks home. Black Grouper are ambush predators, so you'll often find them hanging motionless in the shadows of the wreck structure, waiting for smaller fish to swim by. They're most active during dawn and dusk feeding periods, but they're curious enough that they'll often approach divers who move slowly and respect their space. The best time to spot them is during the warmer months when they're more active, though you can find them year-round on these deeper wrecks. What makes Black Grouper so exciting to encounter is their size and the way they seem to materialize out of nowhere - one moment you're swimming along the wreck, and suddenly there's this massive fish just watching you from 10 feet away. They're not aggressive toward divers, but they command respect, and getting a good photo with one of these Gulf giants is something every wreck diver dreams about.

Plan Your Next Dive

Gulf wreck diving offers some of the most rewarding underwater experiences you'll find anywhere, and our small group approach means you get personalized attention from divemasters who are passionate about sharing these sites with fellow divers. Whether you're new to wreck diving or you've been exploring sunken ships for years, our local knowledge and professional operation will give you the confidence to fully enjoy what lies beneath. The combination of impressive wreck structures, diverse marine life, and warm Gulf waters makes this a customer favorite for good reason. Our marina facilities make it easy to grab a meal or drink after your dives, and our experienced crew will make sure you feel like part of the family from the moment you step on board. Book your spot with us and discover why divers keep coming back to explore these world-class wreck sites season after season.

Ashley Master Diver

quotes

I had the absolute pleasure of diving with Ashley Vick from Scubatech in Destin, Florida, and I can confidently say she is an outstanding master diver and leader. We did two dives to two incredible shipwrecks in the Gulf of Mexico, and Ashley’s expertise, calm presence, and enthusiasm made the experience unforgettable. From the start, Ashley was professional, approachable, and extremely knowledgeable. She gave clear, confident briefings and made sure every diver felt comfortable and prepared. Her leadership underwater was just as impressive—always attentive, aware of the group, and ensuring safety while still letting us fully enjoy the exploration of the sunken ships. The dives themselves were phenomenal, but it was Ashley who truly elevated the experience. She shared great insights about the wrecks, pointed out marine life we might’ve missed, and kept the energy high throughout the day. If you’re planning to dive in the Destin area, I can’t recommend Ashley Vick enough. Her passion for diving, combined with her professionalism and leadership, make her a top-tier dive master and an incredible asset to the Scubatech team.

Captain Mike Rocks

quotes

Captain Mike is an incredible boat captain! The ride out on the water was scenic and beautiful. He quickly took us to the perfect spot and set us up with rods, jigs, and the confidence to reel in some big catches. He was super friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to share his love of fishing with our group. Despite being seasoned fishermen and women, we didn't know the area well enough to find the best spots, but he made our day amazing! When we returned to shore, he promptly cleaned and bagged our catch, and shared a cold beverage with his wonderful wife and us.

Learn more about the species

Black Grouper

Black grouper are some of the toughest fighters you'll tangle with out here. These olive-gray bruisers with dark rectangular blotches average around 2-3 feet, but the big ones can push 50+ pounds and really test your gear. They hang around wrecks, ledges, and rocky bottom structure, usually in 30-100 feet of water depending on the season - shallower when it's cooler, deeper in summer heat. What makes them special? Pure strength and stubbornness once hooked, plus they're absolutely delicious eating with that mild, firm white meat. They're ambush predators that inhale their prey whole, so when you feel that thump, reel hard and fast - don't give them time to think about it or they'll dive straight back into the rocks and break you off. Heavy tackle is a must here, and fresh bait on the bottom works best.
